Phone glitches brief

Published in Long Beach City College's Viking newspaper in 2005.

The phone lines throughout the PCC failed for a few minutes Thursday, Sept. 29, causing no immediate problems for employees.
The dispatched Verizon crew said a memory card in the system failed, causing the phones to appear unstable. The Verizon employees switched over to another memory card, halting the dial tone in the process. Once the memory card was switched, the dial tone returned and the problem was fixed.
Most students were not aware of the failure.
"I didn't even know about it," student Sheila Johnson said. "Even if the problem lasted for a long time, I don't think it would really have an affect on me."
Librarian Marion Hinton said a lot of the information being passed around travels through email and the Internet wasn't effected.
